Part One-Foundation Principles of Leadership
This portion of the course will examine classical and contemporary definitions, interpretations, and applications of leadership. The students will be asked to give their own definition of leadership, based on their life experiences. They will also evaluate and evolve their personal definition of leadership in the light of exposure to new concepts and definitions Part Two-Historical Examples of Leadership in Context and Memory The second part of the course will delve into specific examples and styles of leadership in various disciplines. The examples will include well known and obscure figures, with an examination of their historical context, how s/he came to acquire the particular position of leadership, and the results of their actions as leaders. Part Three-The Individual as Leader The final portion of the course is the development of a leadership plan for each person, based on their individual situation. The personal leadership plan will identify a situation (or situations) in which the student develops a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis of the situation(s), and a course of action designed to bring about a successful resolution to the situation(s). The plan will be discussed throughout the duration of the course, and the instructor will set aside appropriate individual and group meeting time to ensure that each student is making adequate progress toward successfully completing his or her plan. |
